Do running boards fit all trucks?
No. The listings we read are cut by truck, year block and cab. One Tyger title covers a 2019-up Ram 1500 crew cab and rules out the 2019-2024 Classic in the same line. Start from your truck on the all trucks page, then confirm your exact year and cab on the listing.
Is a Double Cab the same on every truck?
No. In the ARIES cab guide, a Silverado Double and a Tundra Double sit in the extended cab column, while a Tacoma Double sits in the crew column. ARIES says its table is only there to aid understanding. So go by the cab name in the listing and compare it with your own doors. Extended cab vs crew cab covers this in more detail.
Do you have to drill?
It depends on the part, and sometimes on the year. Tyger's sheet for the F-150 Riser (TG-RS6F60118) uses factory studs and has no drilling step. Its sheet TG-RS2D40078 for 2009-up Ram crew cabs is printed with the warning "drilling may be required". The RealTruck guide for the 2022-up GM PowerStep calls for drilling through the pinch weld. Read the sheet for your part number.
Do running boards void the factory warranty?
Fitting them does not void the whole warranty by itself, but damage they cause may not be covered. The FTC said in 2018 that conditioning a warranty on specified parts or services is generally prohibited by the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, unless those are free or the FTC has granted a waiver. Ford's support page says modifications do not necessarily void the warranty, and that resulting damage is not covered. This is not legal advice; ask your dealer about your own truck.
How much weight can running boards hold?
Only the maker's document can answer that for a given part. Westin states "300 lbs. of weight capacity per side" for the Pro-e power board. Most listing titles we read state no rating at all, and neither do the Tyger sheets. Where we print "not stated", it means exactly that, so it says nothing about what the part can or cannot hold.
Do running boards hurt gas mileage?
We found no published mpg measurement either way. Claims in both directions circulate online without a test behind them, so we do not repeat a number.
Will current boards fit a 2027 Silverado 1500?
Unverified. GM has announced a next-generation truck for that model year, and no listing we read names it for the 1500. Some titles do run to 2027 for the 2500 and 3500HD, which is a different truck.
Is the 2019 Silverado LD the new truck or the old one?
Treat it as the older truck until a listing says otherwise. Several listing titles exclude the 2019 LD from their 2019-up range or group it with 2007-2018 trucks. We have read listing wording on this, not a GM document.
Do they rust?
Materials and coatings differ, and we have no corrosion measurements. One useful detail comes from Tyger's F-150 sheet: it uses plastic retainers to keep the steel brackets from corroding against the aluminum body panel.
How long does an install take?
Few makers put a number on it. The RealTruck guide for the 2022-up GM PowerStep states 3 to 5 hours, rates the job skill level 4 and recommends professional installation. The Tyger sheets we read give no time.
More answers on the way
Each of these questions is getting its own page with more detail. Pages already published appear here.
How these answers come about is explained under how we verify fitment. Terms are defined in the glossary, cab names on cab types, and the routine before you order on how to check a listing fits.

We are the editorial team at runningboardsfortrucks.com. We read listing titles, maker pages and instruction sheets, then write down which truck, year and cab each one states and where we read it. We do not run lab tests and we do not own a test fleet, and we say so openly.
