Rough Country Running Boards and Power Steps: HD2, BA2 and Power Boards by Truck
Rough Country sells fixed running boards and powered steps, and on Amazon our data shows four powered listings: two for GM crew cabs, one for Ram 2500/3500 and one for Ford crew cabs. Its install sheets are useful and detailed, but they state no time, no warranty and no load rating. Its own website refused our requests, so we go by the sheets and titles.

Straight answer
Rough Country power boards are listed by truck: GM crew cabs for 2014-2019 and 2019-2026, Ram 2500/3500 crew cabs for 2010-2026 and Ford crew cabs for 2015-2026. Its sheets use magnetic door switches and a 25A fuse, and they say not to use the boards as a rock slider. No sheet we read states a load rating. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.
Who is behind Rough Country
Not much that we can stand behind. Rough Country, LLC is the name on its install sheets, along with a help line at 1-800-222-7023. Our requests to roughcountry.com came back refused, so we print nothing about where it is based or how long it has been around. This page runs on four install sheets and the Amazon titles.
The lineup we can document
Read November 2, 2026. Titles are the listing's wording. All four sit in the premium price class, and we do not print amounts.
| Your truck, as titled | Cab | Sheet we read | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Silverado and Sierra 1500/2500HD/3500HD (2019-2026) | Crew | "Chevy Silverado 1500 (19-25) GMC Sierra 1500 (19-25)" | The sheet names the 1500 only and stops at 25 |
| Silverado and Sierra 1500/2500HD/3500HD (2014-2019) | Crew | None | The title says No-Drill Install; no sheet behind that |
| Ram 2500/3500 (2010-2026) | Crew | "RAM (2010-25) 2500/3500", shared with the 09-18 Ram 1500 and later Classic | Sheet stops at 25 |
| F-150 Lightning/F-250/F-350/Raptor (2015-2026) | Crew | "15-25 Ford 150 / 17-25 250 Crew Cab" | The title and sheet name different trucks |
None of these titles carries a part number, so we matched each sheet by application. Confirm the part number with the seller, and ask where the title and sheet disagree. Both GM titles reach 2019, and neither mentions the 2019 LD, which other listings treat as the older truck.

HD2 and BA2
These are fixed boards, and we have no Amazon listing for either.
HD2. We read one Rough Country sheet, "2019 RAM HD2 STEPS". It bolts brackets to factory studs, three locations per side, with no drilling step. It asks for 10, 13, 17 and 18mm sockets, wrenches, a ratchet and a torque wrench, and it says not to slide the board on the brackets or the finish may be damaged. It states no time and no load rating, and that is one kit.
BA2 and the rest. Dealers list the BA2, and searches also name Rough Country drop steps and nerf bars. We read no sheet for those, so we say nothing about their fit, material or strength.
What its power kits ask of you
The sheet for the 2019-25 Silverado and Sierra 1500 kit has you bolt brackets and linkage arms to the rocker, run battery leads with a 25A fuse in a box on the main harness, and mount a control unit near the battery. Four magnetic switches stick to the pillars, with a magnet at each door, and four LED lights go on double-sided tape under the rocker. The Ford sheet adds a plastic insulator on every stud and a shim for Super Duty trucks.
Drilling is where the sheets get specific, and where a title's "no-drill" needs reading closely. The Silverado sheet says that without a rubber grommet you find a plastic plug that can be drilled through for the wires, and it has you hole a plastic cap with a drill or punch on the passenger side. The Ram sheet tells you first to check whether the rocker has threaded inserts, factory rivet inserts or plain hex holes, and with hex holes you set the kit's rivet inserts yourself.
No sheet states a time. Power running boards not working uses these sheets for troubleshooting.
Rough Country vs AMP, on paper
We found no independent side-by-side, so this compares two documents for GM trucks.
| Rough Country power kit, 19-25 GM 1500 sheet | AMP PowerStep 76255-01A guide, 2022-2026 GM 1500 | |
|---|---|---|
| How it reads the door | Magnetic switches and magnets at each door | OBD II module and wire taps at the kick panel |
| Time stated | None | 3-5 hours |
| Skill stated | None | Level 4, "Experienced"; professional installation recommended |
| Drilling in the sheet | Plastic plug or cap for wires | 19/64-inch holes through the pinch weld |
| Warranty in the sheet | None | 5-Year Limited Warranty |
| Load rating in the sheet | None; "Do not overload the running board" | None |
Our pick for that truck stays the AMP PowerStep, a verdict on paperwork. We have no data on which one lasts longer.
Limits the sheets spell out
The Silverado and Ram sheets say: "Do not use boards as a rock slider or as skid protection." They also say not to sit or stand on the board for long periods, jump on it, rest heavy objects on it or step on the plastic end caps.
We print no load figure. The ones we saw came from dealers and did not agree, and no sheet we read states any. How much weight running boards can hold has more.
Strengths and weak spots
Reasons to buy
- Step-by-step sheets you can read before you buy
- No wire taps in the door-signal step of the sheets we read: the kit uses its own switches
- Titles name dual motors or LED lights, and the truck and cab
Reasons to skip
- No time, skill level, warranty or load rating in the sheets we read
- Titles carry no part number, and years differ from the sheets
- We could not read the maker's own site
Consider it if your truck is named in the title and you will route wires and set switches, or pay someone who will. Skip it if you want the time and the warranty up front.
Alternatives
For the whole field, see power running boards. If a powered step looks like more work than you want, a fixed side step has no motor or wiring. Your truck's own warranty is covered on do running boards void your warranty, and our sourcing rules are on how we verify fitment.

Tailgate questions
Are Rough Country power running boards no-drill?
One title says No-Drill Install, and that is the seller's wording. The Silverado sheet we read has no step that drills the pinch weld, but it does say a plastic plug can be drilled through for the wires and a plastic cap can be holed with a drill or punch. The Ram sheet has you set rivet inserts in some trucks' rocker holes.
Rough Country power steps vs AMP: which should I get?
We found no independent test of the two, so we compare paperwork. AMP's guide for its 2022-up GM part states time, skill and warranty, which is why it is our pick for that truck. Rough Country's sheets are detailed on steps but state none of those. Both sit in the premium class. Match the part to your truck first.
How much weight can Rough Country running boards hold?
We print no figure. The figures we saw came from dealers, and the Rough Country sheets we read state none. They say only not to overload the board, not to jump on it and not to stand on it for long periods. Ask Rough Country for the rating on your part number, in writing.
What warranty do Rough Country running boards have?
We could not confirm it. Rough Country's site refused our requests, its install sheets state no term, and the retail pages we saw do not all say the same thing. So we print no term here. Ask Rough Country for the written warranty on your exact part before you buy, and keep your proof of purchase.
Can I use Rough Country running boards as rock sliders?
Not the power boards. Rough Country's Silverado and Ram sheets say not to use them as a rock slider or as skid protection. If you want rock protection, read our rock sliders page and look for a part built for that job, from a maker that says so.
