Chevy Truck Running Boards and Side Steps: Silverado, HD or Colorado

There is no such thing as a Chevy running board. Parts are built for a Silverado 1500, a 2500 or 3500HD, or a Colorado, then for a year block and a cab. Sort out which truck you have first. For a 2019-up Silverado crew cab, start with the Tyger Rider. For a 2015-up Colorado crew cab, start with Tyger's Colorado rail.

Straight answer

Chevy parts split by truck, year and cab. For a 2019-2026 Silverado 1500 or 2020-2027 2500 and 3500HD crew cab, our pick is the Tyger Rider TG-SS2C35068: 8 brackets, threaded holes, no drilling step. For a 2015-2027 Colorado crew cab, it is Tyger's TG-SS2C35168. The 2027 Silverado 1500 stays unverified. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

What's on this page

"Chevy running boards", "Chevy side steps", "Chevy nerf bars": the shopper means the same thing, and no part fits all of it. This page does one job. It gets you to the right truck, then hands you the right parts page.

Which Chevy do you drive?

Read November 2, 2026. Each row repeats listing title wording. We work nothing out from a year range, and how we verify fitment explains why.

Own a Sierra or a Canyon? GMC running boards sorts those. Many parts are shared, but not all of them, as the next section shows.

Tyger Auto

Tyger Rider 3.5" (2019+ GM)

A 3.5-inch rail whose title names the Silverado and Sierra years, the HD split and the cab.

Why here: It names the 1500 years and the HD years apart, and we could read its maker sheet: 8 brackets, threaded holes behind plugs and no drilling step.

Why it makes the list

  • The part number in the title (TG-SS2C35068) ties the listing to Tyger's own instruction sheet
  • That sheet bolts 8 brackets to threaded holes behind plugs in the rocker area and has no drilling step
  • Title separates the 1500 years from the 2500/3500HD years

Watch out for

  • 3.5 inches wide per the title, narrower than the 6-inch boards
  • No weight rating in the title, so none is printed here
  • The title does not mention the 2019 LD/Limited; a sister Tyger listing groups that truck with the older body, so check before ordering

Best for: Crew cab owners on the 2019-up GM full-size who want a rail with a readable install sheet.

That sheet tells you to thread a bolt into the inserts to clear paint where needed. It states no load rating and no install time, so we print neither.

Pick by the shape first. These are all listed for GM crew cab trucks, and they are not the same step.

Silverado cabs, in Chevy's words

Almost everything above says Crew Cab. A Double Cab or Regular Cab owner needs a listing that names that cab, which the main Silverado page gets into. ARIES files the Silverado Double Cab under extended cabs and says its table is only an aid to understanding. Do not carry the word over from a Tacoma. Double cab vs crew cab sets the names side by side.

The Colorado is its own truck

Nothing above is listed for a Colorado. The Tyger Rider for the Colorado and Canyon*, part TG-SS2C35168, is titled for the 2015-2027 Crew Cab, and its sheet shows 6 brackets. That single range covers a long run of model years, and the title says nothing about what changed inside it. A 2027 Colorado is also not the same question as a 2027 Silverado 1500, so do not read one answer across to the other. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

Power steps for Chevy trucks

RealTruck's guide for the AMP PowerStep 76255-01A names the 2022-2026 Silverado 1500, all cabs. It states 3-5 hours, skill level 4 and professional installation recommended. It also has a line about other GM trucks that looks wrong, so we do not use it. Part by part, see Silverado power running boards.

What's not here

  • Factory GM parts. Chevrolet's site refused our read, so we quote nothing from it. Ask your dealer.
  • Trim-specific fit. The titles here do not name the Trail Boss or other trims. Ask the seller if yours sits differently.
  • Load ratings. The titles and Tyger sheets here give none, so we print none.

Every other make is on all trucks.

Tailgate questions

Do the same running boards fit a Silverado 1500 and a Silverado 2500?

Some listings cover both, but they change in different years. One Tyger title reads 2019-2026 for the 1500 and 2020-2027 for the 2500 and 3500HD, all Crew Cab. An older title puts the split at 2018 for the 1500 and 2019 for the HD. So read the year next to your exact truck, not the widest range in the title.

Do Chevy and GMC trucks use the same running boards?

Often, but not on every listing. Tyger's titles name the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra together. The COMNOVA 6-inch title names the Chevy Silverado 1500 and the Silverado and Sierra 2500HD and 3500HD, but no Sierra 1500. If your truck's name is not in the title, the title does not state your truck.

Are there factory GM running boards?

GM sells accessories through its dealers, but we cannot quote them. Chevrolet's site refused our read when we checked, and we read no GM accessory document, so none of those parts are in our data. Ask a Chevrolet dealer with your VIN. Our fit lines here cover the aftermarket listings and maker sheets we could read.

What about older Chevy trucks and square bodies?

Our data does not reach that far for most styles. The oldest GM listing we carry names 1999-2018 double cab trucks, and most start at 2007. That means nothing in our data, not that no part exists. Search your year and cab by name, and ask the seller for an install sheet before you order.
