Running Boards for the 2007-2018 Silverado 1500: Regular, Extended/Double and Crew

For a 2007-2018 Silverado 1500, the listings split by cab. On a Crew Cab, our pick is the Tyger Rider 3.5-inch because we could read its maker sheet. A Double or Extended Cab has the COMNOVA 6-inch, and a two-door has the DNA Motoring 6.75-inch. Boards for the 2019-up body are separate listings, though a 2019 LD can land here.

Straight answer

A 2007-2018 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab: start with the Tyger Rider 3.5-inch, which names 2007-2018 and the 2019 LD/Limited in its title. Its sheet has no drilling step, but models with a DEF tank may require cutting. Double or Extended Cab and Regular Cab each have their own listings. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

What's on this page

A running board is a step mounted below a truck's doors that makes it easier to climb in and out. This page goes one level deeper than the Silverado overview for trucks up to 2018, whether you are shopping a 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 or 2018.

What's listed for your cab

Read November 2, 2026. Wording is from the listing titles and the sheet named, and we add nothing to it.

Two of those titles run to 2019 in one block and do not split the two 2019 bodies. On a 2019, that is a question for the seller. The 2019 LD page explains the split, and our source there is listings only, with no GM document read. How to check a listing fits has the routine.

Tyger Auto

Tyger Rider 3.5" (2007-2018 GM)

The older-body Rider, and one of the few titles that places the 2019 LD/Limited with the older trucks.

Why here: It is the older-body crew listing with a maker sheet we could read, and the title places the 2019 LD/Limited explicitly.

Why it makes the list

  • Part number in the title (TG-SS2C35018) ties it to Tyger's instruction sheet
  • The sheet includes brackets for trucks with a DEF tank
  • Title names the 2019 LD/Limited

Watch out for

  • On DEF-tank trucks the sheet says the job may require cutting and that dropping the tank may be easier; a full tank is heavy, so have help
  • No weight rating in the title, so none is printed here

Best for: Crew cab owners with a 2007-2018 GM 1500, or a 2019 LD/Limited.

Tyger's TG-SS2C35018 sheet comes with five universal mounting brackets, plus a separate upper and lower bracket for the passenger front. You locate five tabs along the pinch weld, and the brackets go at the first, second and fifth. There is no drilling step in it. Just below the top, in capitals, it says models with a DEF tank should be done on a flat, level area and "may require cutting".

The rail is 3.5 inches per the title. If you want more foot area on a crew cab, compare a board. If the climb is the problem, the Tyger LanderX* is the drop step in this group, though we could not read a sheet for it.

If your truck has a DEF tank

Most guides skip this, and it is the hardest part of the job on the trucks that have it. Tyger's sheet says the tank sits close to the body, and that the passenger front bracket can be fitted with specialized tools but room is very limited. It then splits by year.

  • Up to 2016 models: it may be easier to drop the tank to reach the panel. The sheet says the tank does not need to come off, only down. It warns a full tank is very heavy, recommends help, and suggests doing the job with the tank low.
  • 2017 and later: take the plastic cover off the tank. A figure shows that cover marked for trimming. On 2017-on 2500 and 3500 models, the sheet says to remove only the cover and not to lower or remove the tank.

No DEF tank? The sheet tells you to skip those steps. We print no time for the job, because the sheet gives none. The general picture is on how to install running boards.

Double Cab, Extended Cab and Regular Cab

ARIES files the Silverado Double under extended cabs, naming it Double from 2014 to current and Extended before 2004. The COMNOVA 6-inch* uses both words in one title, which helps when your paperwork says the other one. The MaxMate 3-inch* is a narrow round tube with SS trucks excluded. Do not carry the word Double over from a Tacoma, where ARIES files it under crew. Extended cab vs crew cab covers why, and extended cab running boards has the wider list.

On a two-door, the DNA Motoring 6.75-inch* is what we have, and its title says "2-Dr Standard Cab". All three are listing data only. No title here gives a load rating, so we print none.

A year-range warning

Amazon titles pool 2007-2018, but LUVERNE's 2023 catalog does not. Its wheel-to-wheel rows for the Silverado 1500 split 2007-2013 from 2014-2018, and it has separate rows for a 2007 Classic. We do not use that to judge the Amazon parts. It is a reason to confirm a part on your year, especially on a 2007, or a 2013 against a 2014.

Westin's Pro-e table names one part, 29-23725, for the 2007-2018 Silverado and Sierra 1500 Crew Cab and the 2007-2019 HD Crew Cab, and it states "300 lbs. of weight capacity per side". We have no Amazon listing for that one on this truck. If you want it, Westin covers the brand.

Next steps

On a 2019-up truck, use the 2019-2026 Silverado page. On a 2500HD or 3500HD, see Silverado HD. Other trucks are on all trucks. For the steps behind every fit line, see how we verify fitment. And nobody on this site has bolted these on a truck, so the sheet and the seller are your final word. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

Tailgate questions

Are 2014-2018 Silverado running boards different from 2007-2013?

On Amazon, the titles we read run 2007-2018 as one range, so nothing there splits them. LUVERNE's 2023 catalog does split them, with separate 2007-2013 and 2014-2018 Silverado 1500 rows. So if you find a part with its own years, take that seriously. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

Do 2018 Silverado running boards fit a 2019 Silverado?

Not as a rule. The body change sits at 2019 in the titles we read, and 2019-up parts are separate listings. The exception is the 2019 LD/Limited, which Tyger's title lists with the 2007-2018 trucks. Our source for that is listings only, with no GM document read, so confirm it on your truck.

Do running boards for a 2015 Silverado need drilling?

Not on Tyger's sheet for TG-SS2C35018, which has no drilling step. It attaches at tabs along the pinch weld and threaded points on the body panel. It does warn that models with a DEF tank may require cutting. We read no sheet for the other listings on this page, so ask the seller.

Do these fit a 2007-2018 Sierra too?

Only where the title says so. Tyger, COMNOVA, DNA Motoring and MaxMate titles name the Sierra. The unbranded title also names it. The Auto Dynasty title names only the Silverado. Go by the words in the listing and not by how alike the two trucks look.
