GMC Canyon Running Boards: The Colorado Listings That Name the Canyon

Yes, there are running boards listed for the GMC Canyon, and nearly all of them are Colorado listings that name both trucks. Most say Crew Cab. For a Canyon crew cab, start with the Tyger Rider 3.5-inch, because its maker sheet is the one we could read. Extended cab owners have one listing, and it needs a closer look.

Straight answer

Six titles we read name the GMC Canyon alongside the Colorado. Five say Crew Cab and one says Extended Cab. Our pick for a crew cab is the Tyger Rider TG-SS2C35168: six brackets, clip nuts at the existing mounting locations and no drilling step in the sheet. Titles run 2015 to 2026 or 2027 in one block. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

What's on this page

The Canyon rarely gets a listing of its own. On Amazon it rides along in the Colorado title, which is fine as long as the title actually names it. These are the ones that do.

What the titles state

Read November 2, 2026. This is title wording, marked according to the listing. Nothing here is worked out from the Colorado.

No listing in our data names a regular cab Canyon. That means none in our data, not none that exist. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

The 2023 catch

Every one of these titles runs a single range across the 2023 model year. That is worth a second look. Wikipedia splits the Canyon into a second generation for 2015-2022 and a third from 2023, and it describes the third as available only with a Crew Cab and a single bed length. We could not check that against GMC, because gmc.com refused our request. So we repeat it with that label.

Here is what it means when you read a title:

  • A 2023-up truck. A single 2015-2026 range does not tell you whether the part changed in the middle. No title we read says what happens at 2023, so ask the seller directly.
  • The Extended Cab title. It says 2015-2026 Extended Cab, while Wikipedia says there is no such cab from 2023. Treat the extended cab listing as a question for the seller if your truck is close to that line, and do not take the 2026 in the title as settled.
  • The last year. Tyger's titles say 2027, the COMNOVA and extended cab titles say 2026, and Westin's table stops the Canyon at 2026. We did not read a Tyger sheet that settles this.

ARIES lists the Canyon under regular, extended and crew with no years next to it, and it calls its table a guide only. The cab guide explains what those names mean across brands.

Tyger Auto

Tyger Rider 3.5" (Colorado and Canyon)

A 3.5-inch rail for the mid-size GM crew cab, with a maker sheet.

Why here: Its title names the Canyon and the cab, and its part number ties it to the one Canyon sheet we could read.

Why it makes the list

  • Part number (TG-SS2C35168) ties it to Tyger's instruction sheet
  • Sheet uses 6 brackets and has no drilling step

Watch out for

  • The title spans 2015-2027 in one range, so confirm your year on the listing
  • No weight rating in the title, so none is printed here

Best for: Colorado or Canyon crew cab owners who want a rail and a readable install.

Here is what Tyger's sheet for TG-SS2C35168 asks of you:

  • Parts: six brackets, three per side, with 12 clip nuts and two sets of 8mm bolts.
  • Where it mounts: the first, second and fourth mounting locations along the bottom and inner side of the body panel.
  • How: pull the rubber plugs, slide each clip nut into the large hole and over the small one next to it, hang the brackets loose, set the rail on them, then level and tighten.
  • Watch for: the sheet warns not to slide or rotate the rail on the cradles, or you may damage the finish. It recommends a helper and periodic checks that the hardware stays tight.

There is no drilling step in it. It also gives no install time and no weight rating, so we print neither. The rail is 3.5 inches wide per the title, which is narrow next to a 6-inch board. If you want more room for your boot, that matters more than anything else on the page.

Side steps, step bars, nerf bars and drop steps

Search terms overlap, and these titles stack them, so go by the shape. Tyger's Rider title alone says running boards, side step, rail and nerf bars.

Extended cab

The extended cab listing* is the only one we have for that cab. The title has no brand, and it is all we read. Do not put a crew cab part on an extended cab: the cab is the first thing that decides the part. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

Power steps and rock sliders

No powered step in our Amazon data names the Canyon. Westin's Pro-e table does list it: part 29-24015, Canyon Crew Cab Pickup, 2015-2026, with "300 lbs. of weight capacity per side" on the same page. That figure belongs to that Westin part alone. For the wider field, see power running boards.

We have no slider for the Canyon either. Many Amazon titles use the word slider on step rails, so read how a part mounts. Rock sliders explains the difference.

What to do next

Your truck's sister has its own page, Colorado running boards, and Sierra owners should go to Sierra running boards. See the GMC overview for the rest of the lineup, all trucks for other makes and how we verify fitment for how we read these lines.

Tailgate questions

Do Colorado running boards fit a GMC Canyon?

Only go by what the title says. Every listing on this page names both the Colorado and the Canyon, so those titles do cover the Canyon by name. A title that says Colorado alone says nothing about your truck, however alike the two look. Check your exact year and cab on the listing before you buy.

What running boards are listed for a 2026 GMC Canyon?

All six titles here run through 2026, and the four Tyger titles run to 2027. Those are ranges from 2015 and do not name 2026 by itself. Westin's Pro-e table stops the Canyon at 2026. One title says Extended Cab, so if you have a 2023-up truck, read the section on that catch. Confirm the year on the listing.

Do GMC Canyon side steps need drilling?

Tyger's sheet for the Rider TG-SS2C35168 has no drilling step. You pull rubber plugs and slide clip nuts into the existing holes. We could not read a sheet for the other listings here, so we cannot say for those. Ask the seller, and read the instructions before you commit.

Are there rock sliders for the GMC Canyon?

None in the Amazon data we read for this page. That means none in our data, not none on the market. Remember that Amazon titles often use the word slider on plain step rails, so look at how a part mounts and do not stop at the word. Our rock sliders page covers what separates the two.

How much weight can Canyon running boards hold?

The titles and the Tyger sheet state no rating, so we print none. Westin's own Pro-e page lists a Canyon crew cab part, 29-24015, and states 300 lbs. of weight capacity per side for that power board. Do not carry that number over to any other part. Ask the maker about yours.
